There are approximately 240 people alive today who were born with the surname Boleat. Over half of these live in Brittany, about 30% in the rest of France and 15% in Jersey. Almost certainly, they are all related and all can trace their origins back to a small area in the North of Brittany, south of Lannion and east of Morlaix.

This website makes available genealogical information on people born with the name Boleat. It makes no attempt to follow the female line other than to record spouses.

The main sources have been as follows:

• For the Jersey branch of the family personal knowledge has been sufficient.
• For the Brittany branch original records have been researched; more recently these have been supplemented by Internet searches, in particular the excellent online records of the Cotes d'Armor and the Finistere Genealogical Society.

In accordance with normal practice, with a few exceptions the website does not include information on people still living.
